A Little Something for the Man in Your Life: Free Prostate Cancer Screening!
Prostate cancer is the second most common form of cancer in American men. Sadly, in 2018 alone, the American Cancer Society estimates almost 165,000 new cases and an estimated 29,000 deaths from the disease.
Prostate cancer begins when cells in the prostate gland start to grow uncontrollably. Almost all prostate cancers are adenocarcinomas meaning that these cancers develop from the gland cells.
Screening for cancer is important because it allows cancer to be detected early, even before symptoms begin, making it easier to treat.
Silver Cross Hospital in partnership with Advanced Urology Associates will offer free prostate cancer screenings on Tuesday, Sept. 11, with time slots available between 8 and 10 a.m.. The screening includes a private digital rectal exam along with a PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) blood test. Registration is required. If your first-time preference is unavailable, please check the other time slots for availability. No walk-ins will be accepted.
